2025 Season
Junior coaching takes place at Rossie Priory cricket pitches at 6pm on Monday evenings during the cricket season.
2025 Season Update:
-
Junior Coaching begins on Monday 28th April 2025 at 6pm.
-
Ewan Riley confirmed as a coach again this year.
-
There will be lots of fixtures for all age groups this season.
-
All ages and abilities are very welcome.
-
Our first Softball festival at Meigle is on 30th April.
-
We have a coach coming on Wednesday evenings to coach the 14’s and some seniors that need a few pointers!
Junior correspondence, fixtures and events will now be communicated through Spond – we currently have 30 junior members, and this should increase as the season progresses.
We have Match Fixtures for all ages and Teams. Please see the Junior Fixtures page (Excel and PDF formats).
We have formed a Junior Committee to help steer the junior strategy, fundraising, and social events. Who will also have an input at a general club admin level.
Feel free to come along and join in with junior coaching on a Monday night. We have a thriving Junior set up with coaching available for all age groups, boys and girls, and all backgrounds. Younger age groups follow the Cricket Scotland coaching program that focuses on fun and learning the game. Older age groups follow a similar coaching approach to further develop their love and enjoyment of the game. All coaching is led by Cricket Scotland / ECB qualified coaches. The most important aspects of these sessions are being active, having a lot of fun, and for them, being a rewarding team sport.
As the 2025 Season begins, we will update this Juniors page with more coaching, social events, and fixtures information.
2025 Outdoor Events
Updated: Wed. 23 April 2025.
Rossie is hosting their 1st Softball festival of the outdoor season on 9th May. The junior committee will have a small fundraising tea/coffee/cake stand for visiting clubs and parents. We are due to host 4 over the season – in fixture lists.
PKC cricket development team are assisting us to run the inaugural ‘Junior Open Evening’ on Monday 19th May during junior coaching– this is to introduce any attendees from the Maddoch centre program or local school kids to Rossie Cricket ground, and the wider group of senior players and hopefully they will get the Rossie bug!!
More events: cricket & social, to follow once we get these 2 under our belts and gain a bit of experience running them.
Winter Cricket
Posted: Wed. 23rd April 2025.
We have run a successful coaching/training/introduction to cricket program at the Madoch centre in St Madoes @ 4-5pm on a Thursday during February and March. This will also run again from October through December once the outdoor season is finished. The funding for Oct-Dec is covered by the PKCSC grant obtained recently – Faf went along to collect the cheque.
This has been organised and coordinated in collaboration with the Maddoch Centre and PKC cricket development officers, whom we should show thanks to for coordinating. Ewan Riley was the coach, and this was achievable because of a grant for coaching resources from PKSC (Perth and Kinross Sports Council) – This will bring new faces to Rossie over the summer
We need to really emphasise the help we are receiving from the PKC cricket development officer Louis Gallagher, and his team – any public appreciation will go a long way to secure the future of this team during times of council cuts. Also, Jenny at the Maddoch Centre has been instrumental in making this happen.
Also, over winter 24/25 we attended indoor matches for both Softball and Tapeball in the Taygrow Tapeball Indoor League – This is for clubs within Angus and Perthshire.
Taygrow Ltd (Ewan and Gordon Starks company) who sponsored the league. This allows for 38 indoor sessions from October 24 to March 25. This would not have gone ahead without the sponsorship, so worth mentioning that Rossie players essentially made it happen financially. Also, thanks to Forfarshire for doing the organising and administration.
Taygrow Tapeball Indoor League - Rossie Highlanders played 7 Tapeball matches and 10 softball tournaments.
This is the second year doing this, and all clubs are reaping the benefits come the summer months—a real success story for cricket in the area.
